Think about the type of wedding you want. Whether you want it to be big or small, formal or informal and the time of year you would like it to take place. go through as many magazines as you can get your hands on. put all your clippings ,from wedding dresses to cakes, in a file. You will find this file will not leave your side until your wedding day.


Set your budget.


Draw up a rough guest list as the numbers might influence your reception choice.


Book ceremony and reception venues. Get all the information from the venue, like the max and min amount of guests they require, menu options and remember to ask what happens if the reception continues after midnight if it is an evening wedding.


Book caterer if needed.


Meet with a florist to discuss overall style. Decide on colours and if you can give them a layout of the venues it might help to give them a better idea of what decor is needed.


Order wedding cake


Finalize guest list and choose attendants.


Book photographer and videographers


Think about what style of dress you want and discuss it with your designer


Four to six months ahead


Meet with designer to discuss and order your invitations


Reserve rental equipment. e.g. Table chairs and tents


Purchase or reserve grooms attire


Choose attendants attire


Book music for ceremony and reception


Arrange transport for the wedding day


Book hairdresser and make up artist


Two to four months ahead


Send out invites


Discuss details of menu with restaurant or caterer


Discuss service with officiant


Choose readings for ceremony


Schedule rehearsal times and rehearsal dinner


Go for hair and makeup trials


One to two months ahead


Finalize all your rsvps and work out your final guest count.


Notify caterer on final guest count


Put together your seating plan


Let you designer know final names and numbers of your

guests and order your order of service, seating plan, place

cards, menus, and any other extras you might need.


Two weeks ahead


Assign specific duties like handing out of corsages,

order of services and confetti to members of your wedding party


Make sure the master of ceremonies and the rest of the bridal

party knows exactly what is required of them.


Give all appropriate people (master of ceremonies, photographer,

caterer) a order of events for your wedding.


One week ahead


Have final dress fittings with shoes and lingerie


Confirm transportation, photographer, hair and makeup,

stationery, cake and any other vendors involved.


One day ahead


Prepare all payments to be given to vendors on the

day and assign that job to a member of the wedding party.


Have a manicure and pedicure.


Have a long relaxing bath and try and get some sleep!
